Nowhere To Lay My Eyes (눈둘데가 없네)

Pressespiegel

"The director’s 35th feature is as classically and welcomingly Hong as it gets: a brief, bittersweet comedy of familial distance and personal drift, crisply and candidly shot,
and built around a marvelous performance of quiet, more-than-meets-the-eye feeling by his partner and longtime muse Kim Minhee."
 Variety

"Leisurely yet profound, with NOWHERE TO LAY MY EYES, the multi-hyphenate auteur Hong Sangsoo offers one of his most existential works yet."  Roger Ebert

"NOWHERE TO LAY MY EYES, a new film signed by Hong Sangsoo, as meager as it is charming, and faithful to the bitter bucolic spirit of his recent films." Liberation

"NOWHERE TO LAY MY EYES feels like more than just a break from the norm. It’s funny and in-focus." The Film Stage

"Kim Minhee’s quietly fascinating as a woman who has clearly brought a fair amount of baggage with her on her trip to visit her mother." Screendaily

"A delicate, intense, and compact 72-minute film, it moves the viewer and reaches deep within the soul. It plays with the conventions of traditional film language, is magnificently acted, and draws the audience into a small, self-contained universe." RSI

"The film is slim — just 72 minutes — but it sticks."  New York Metropolitan

"In NOWHERE TO LAY MY EYES one appreciates his great ability to depict family relationships with extreme authenticity, ranging from moments of pure affection to others marked by serious communication difficulties." Il Sole 24 Ore

"This is a drama of soft notes in typical Hong fashion. Through conversation alone, he captivates, compelling us to ponder and examine our own knot of things we keep from one another.
A master of the low-key, Hong confirms his ceaseless appetite for renewing perspectives on characters, conflicts and dilemmas."
 Outlook India

"What must be considered is how Hong’s eye toward expanding our notion of a structural flip conveys the film’s dramatic material" In Review Online

"His films always achieve a singular coherence, an especially remarkable feat given that they are built out of apparent improvisation."  El Antepenúltimo Mohicano -

"Hong Sangsoo’s new film continues the distinctive poetic vision of the indefatigable Korean director, who has long pursued an independent way of making films with the same close-knit group of collaborators—a genuine community— creating gestures that are instantly recognizable yet surprising at every turn." Il Manifesto

"The director tells his stories with such effortless simplicity that it barely feels like anything is happening at all; yet deep down, it strikes right at the heart." International Cinephile Society

"They make low-budget ‘small films’ using old-fashioned cameras. But how beautiful this film is!"  Kommersant

Regie-Notiz
